Better Cotton is sourced via a chain of custody model called mass balance.
It allows Better Cotton to be substituted or mixed
with conventional cotton while ensuring that the amount of Better Cotton sold never exceeds
the amount of Better Cottonpurchased. As the cotton moves along the supply chain
and is made into different products, BCCUs (Better Cotton ClaimUnit) are also passed along to represent
the volume of Better Cotton sourced. Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products, however,
Better Cotton Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ʻsource.ʼ
